DOGS OF DOWNTOWN
A photographic discovery of the wonderful dogs who inhabit the concrete jungle of Downtown Los Angeles.
Welcome....
Welcome to Dogs of Downtown where we showcase our wonderful four-legged friends who live and visit the Downtown Los Angeles area.
Downtown Los Angeles is home to more than 13,000 dogs who live in lofts, apartments, houses and hotels. As Downtown continues to expand and grow, so too will the number of pets. Downtown Los Angeles is unique in that most lofts and residential buildings allow dogs - most without breed/weight restrictions. This attracts many people who own or wish to own a dog to move into the area. Couple that with the increasing number of world class restaurants, activities and nightlife and it becomes clear why Downtown is one of the most desireable and fastest growing areas in Los Angeles.
Dogs of Downtown strives to show-off our incredible diverse mix of dogs who walk the streets, play in the parks and hang out at restaurants. We hope you enjoy it!

Lexi - Mix Breed
This is one lucky pup. Lexi was found by his owner in the parking garage of the building and he was scared, dirty and very thirsty. After many hours of coaxing, his mom finally got him out from under a car. She tried to find his owners and after several weeks, she decided that Lexi was hers and they have been together ever since. Lexi is still quite shy and takes a bit of time to warm up to strangers, but at home he is "the perfect dog".
Angel - before and after...
Angel...the name says it all. He really is an angel. The poor baby was found in an alley inside a box. He was barely three weeks old when the wonderful man who found him brought him to Pet Project, seeking help. One of my neighbors, Jessica, fell in love with this little baby and between the two of us, nursed his dehydrated, hungry little body back to health. He is now a wonderful adolescent kitty with the most mellow personality! Jessica will periodically bring Angel to Pet Project for a visit and he purrs and cuddles as if he is the happiest kitty in the world!
Squid - Pug
This is Squid. Squid is a 4 month old pug who is incredibly adorable!! I asked how he got the name Squid and his daddy told me that he makes lots of squishy sounds and his eyes are far apart - kind of squidlike! You can name this pup anything and it all comes down to this.....HE'S CUTE!!!

Chris - Hedgehog
Chris, aka Cranky Chris, is a pygmy hedgehog who isn't really all that cranky! He just woke up from his daily sleep and is ready to face the night. He's quite friendly and loves his kitten food crunchies! He is covered in spines that are stiff but not sharp like a porcupine's. When threatened, he rolls up into a ball, tucking his face into his tummy. Adorable isn't a strong enough word to describe this baby!!

Buster - R.I.P. 1996 - 2011
Buster is one of the first dogs I met when I moved to Downtown in late 2001. He lived in my building and I would love it when I would bump into him in the halls or around the neighborhood. He was quick with a smile and a tail wag which would warm your heart. The corner of 4th and Main Streets will be a bit emptier without you little man, but we are so lucky to have known you!

Tramp - Schnoxie
If you live in Downtown L.A., chances are you have seen Tramp riding on his daddy's lap while being driven on the EBike. Or, since his daddy works for Walk Fido, perhaps you have seen him walking in a large group of well behaved doggies. Tramp is a 5 year old mix of Schnauzer and Daschund, which makes him a Schnoxie!
Bradley - Cocker Spaniel
Dear sweet Bradley was the love of a good friend of mine who owns The Downtown News. A while back Bradley fell ill. He fought a very brave fight and after several years of treatment, he succumbed to his illness and passed away. He is now forever by his Mom's side. Rest in peace dear Bradley.
Jackson - Pitbull Mix
This is one handsome little man! 7 year old Jackson came to Downtown L.A. from Orlando Florida with his mom in April. He has adjusted perfectly to his new surroundings and is one happy chappy! He was surrendered to the vet when he was about 6 mos. old because of a nasty spider bite which resulted in the removal of one toe. His mom took him home and they have been together since.
PS - He's a "leaner" too!

English Bulldog
This is such an adorable little pup and I am so ashamed to admit that I lost the paper with the details for her "bio". I will add her information after I see her again! I did want to make sure her picture was in the blog because LOOK HOW CUTE THIS FACE IS!!!

Art - Pitbull/English Pointer mix
Just look at that smile!!! Art is an amazingly calm, sweet boy for being only a year and a half! He's the best art I've seen on Gallery Row! ;o)
River - Vizsla
Attention! Be on the lookout for one CUTE pup! This is River, a 10 week old Vizsla. If you see River, you will fall in love - I guarantee it!
Cherry Bomb - Red Nosed Pitbull
Gosh darnit! How come the little babies are sooooo wiggly?! This angel is a young little bundle of energy who was preoccupied with another little puppy in my store which explains the blurry photo! Love!!

Tuki - French Bulldog
Tuki is a three month old sweet baby girl who is such a gentle soul. However, being only three months old she is still experiencing the world. I can imagine in a few weeks she'll be full of beans and mischievous! I love her!
In honor of Memorial Day
Lest we forget those brave dogs of war who helped save countless lives. Their sacrifices and those of their handlers deserve our utmost respect.
Lucille - English Mastiff
Lucille is the talk of Downtown. Seriously. Everyone comes up to me asking if I saw "that adorable baby Mastiff named Lucille"! I am so lucky that she comes to visit me and I get to watch her grow. And grow. And grow.

Chaucer - English Mastiff
This is Chaucer. Chaucer is a BIG DOG who lives in Downtown L.A.
Apparently Chaucer is frightened of alien invasion (note the tinfoil hat!)!
This gentle giant is one loveable dog with loads of charm!
Lexington - Sharpei mix
When Pet Project just moved into its new location on Spring Street, Mr. Lexington decided to just plant himself at the door and wait for it to open!
Dolly - Maltese mix
Oh little Dolly started off life in such horrible conditions and was horribly abused. Luckily for her, her new parents take such good care of her and shower her with so much love that hopefully it has erased all of the bad memories from her mind.
A Baby Kitty!!!!!
A new infant kitty - just to show the world we also have the most adorable baby kitties in Downtown!!
Panda - Malamute
This shy little baby is such a softie. New to downtown, she was a bit reluctant to socialize and was somewhat overwhelmed with all the noise and activities, but she did demonstrate her amazing ability to melt our hearts!
Vice - Bull Terrier
This little guy is one of the most popular pups in Downtown! He is one charismatic kid - outgoing, gregarious, funny, and seriously playful all rolled into one darling little pup!
Max the Bunny!
Er, not quite a pup but one heck of a cute bunny! He is gigantic too! His parents put a harness on him and take him to the park for some outside time. Then they bring him in to see me! Yay for me!

Chloe - Yorkie
OMG. I DO love the Yorkies! Especially when they dig wearing adorable clothes (bought at Pet Project! *shameless plug*) and have lovely attitudes. Like Chloe! Chloe is 3 years old and apparently has been dressing up in clothes her whole life! She gets so excited when you pull out a new jacket, sweater or shirt - she just can't wait to try it on and show you how pretty she is! Luv her!
