Moon - Black Shepherd

There certainly isn't a dark side of the moon here!!  Moon is such a love!  And very nosey!  He had to investigate everything in my store and check out everything in my desk drawer!  I don't mind - being such a sweetheart, he is welcome to come in any day!

Marcie Mae - Yorkie

Marcie Mae is a true micro-pup!  She is sooooo tiny!  She is 4 months old and so cute you could just eat her up!  She lives in Agua Dulce with her human mom who is a horseback riding instructor.  Little Marcie Mae gets lots of sunshine and fresh air!

Sadie - Pomeranian/Daschund mix

Little Sadie is a real supermodel!!  I pulled out the camera and *flash* I get this smile and pose!!  She is a wonderful 10 month old girl who lives with her human just outside of Downtown.  Sadie is still young and so she still has that puppy energy!

Baci - Brittany Spaniel

Awwww, her name says it all - Baci (meaning "kiss")!  What an angel!  She is 9 months old and has a very high energy level.  She can run like the wind and has a best friend at the P.E. Lofts who is a Boxer.  They meet on the rooftop dog run and play!

Nelson - Brittany Spaniel

Nelson is a gorgeous 11 year old boy with a true Brittany Spaniel attraction to feathers!  This guy has been know to rip up feather pillows - I've seen the photos!  He is sweet as pie but you just can't stop a bird dog from going after the feathers!

Thanksgiving Message

To all of the humans out there who are parents to dogs and other pets, please be careful during the Thanksgiving holiday to keep all turkey bones, sugary treats and other dangerous and/or toxic foods from your pet's reach.  Dogs and cats can be unbelievably sneaky and find ways into the trash bin or on top of counters!

I certainly am happy for the animal blessings in my life - my boy, Baron von Squirtenheimer and my three fish  Liberace, Eunice and Hiroshi; the fact that I had my soul-mate kitty for 22 years who is now in heaven - and all of the wonderful pups who visit me!  I am one lucky lady!

PS - If you are looking for a pup to have in your life, or if your own dog needs a companion - please seriously consider adoption.  Most of the dogs shown on this blog are from shelters or adopted and they are all wonderful, wonderful dogs!

Annie - Chihuahua

Annie is one much-loved doggie!  She lives with her human, who is wheel chair bound, but spends most of her time hanging out with her friends on Main Street!  She is a true resident of Downtown and one of the most famous one too!  Everyone who has been on Main Street between 5th and 6th Streets knows Annie!  I just adore her!

Penelope - Border Collie mix

Penelope is a darling 1 1/2 year old Border Collie who is one of those super athletes!  She loves to play!  She also has a cultured side - she really loves to watch ballet!  I don't get it either but I had two people swear it's true!  She is a bit of a "human" in that she carries the leash of other dogs and walks them down the street!  We love her!!

Shamrock - American Red-Nosed Pit Bull

Shamrock the red-nosed pit bull. 
Was a very happy guy. 
And if you ever saw him, you would surely want to sigh. 
All of the other puppies, used to laugh and watch him play. 
They couldn't catch our Shamrock, he's the fastest dog today!

Birdy Sanchez - Briard

Miss Birdie Sanchez is what I draw when I am asked to draw a dog.  She is absolutely adorable!  She is quite shy around strangers but a real sweetie underneath it all.  She lived in Downtown for her first 1.5 years and then lived in Arizona for the past year and a half. While in Arizona, her home was on a golf course so she chased rabbits and bobcats and managed to avoid the roving gangs of coyotes.  Birdie Sanchez is back living in Downtown near 4th and Main Streets and all we can say is - Welcome Home Birdie!

MagicGoblin - Miniature Pinscher

MagicGoblin lives just two seconds outside of Downtown, but is here all the time since her Mom works at the Down 'n Out bar at 5th and Spring Streets and they have tons of Downtown friends!  Magic is one of those special dogs who rescued her human and they have been close ever since! 

Butters - Terrier mix

This face looks like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth!  Maybe that is why her name is Butters.  Butters is a funny, high energy young lady who is 2 years old.  She goes to daycare at Bark Avenue and apparently is an alpha female - she plays pretty rough!   Oh, and she loves chicken wrapped banana chips!  CUTE!

Trixie - Schipperke/Pomeranian mix

Trixie will be one year old on the winter solstice - December 21st.  She is a rescue from Kern County by Bark Avenue and adopted by her human, Scott.  Trixie is another Downtown Realtor Dog and works at the Rowan Building, showing beautiful lofts to buyers.  She's very smart - even without going to college!  Stop in to say "hello" to Trixie!

Rascal - Not sure what mix he is!

Rascal is a true survivor.  His humans saw him roaming the streets for quite some time and one day, their daughter asked if she could "just give him some food".  Well, by the next day, Rascal had a bath, was sleeping in the bed and had a full wardrobe of clothes!  Rascal shares his humans with his sister, Sassy - another rescue.  They are both very lucky dogs!  I *heart* Rascal's parents for saving them!

Kobe - Cinnamon Poodle

This little guy is a real sweetheart!  He's not normally shy, but is camera shy!  I was very lucky to have been able to get this picture as most of them have him turning his head or walking away!  He is so sweet and can melt your heart!

Chico - Chihuahua/Terrier mix

Oh Chico!  You just kill me with your awesomeness!  Chico is a 2 year old young man who seriously owns his mommy's heart!  Chico works at the Old Bank District leasing office, showing units to prospective residents in the three buildings they own.  He does not, however, take repair calls from tenants because he just doesn't have time in his busy day.  I love you Chico!

Gia - Boston Terrier

I'm so fickle.  I fall in love with another dog every single day!  Today, my love is Gia.  Gia is visiting Downtown Los Angeles from Northern California with her mom.  Little Gia is 4 years old and loves EVERYONE!   When she goes to a dog park, she spreads her love and playfulness with all of the dogs.  She is a joy to be near!

Prince - Maltese

Look at that sweet, sweet face!!  This sweet baby is only two months old and already attached to his mommy - and vice versa!  Little Prince is going to grow up to be a most lovely little man - and continue to rule his mommy's heart!

Chico - Chihuahua

Awwww Chico is just so adorable!  But Chico is sooooo shy!!  He is 1 1/2 years old and lives around 6th and Main Streets with his humans and two sister chihuahas.  Chico was rescued from a homeless guy who was not very "dog friendly". 

Mousa - Doberman Pinscher

Although partial to my own Dobie, Mousa rates pretty high on the scale of awesome Dobermans!!  Look how handsome!  Mousa came from Russia and is currently studying French Ring training, which is a form of obedience competition.  He is amazingly well mannered - and he's only 16 months old!  It will be a pleasure to watch Mousa grow up!

Hailey - Poodle mix

Hailey is an adorable 2 year old poodle mix who was rescued from someone in Venice Beach who just couldn't care for her properly. Hailey spent her first two years wearing a t-shirt every single day and now she has a "tan line" from where the sun has bleached her dark fur!

Beatrix - Ridgeback mix

Oh my goodness what a darling little girl this is!  She is a Lacy Street Shelter rescue and absolutely loved by her humans and they are loved back by Beatrix!  Beatrix is highly food motivated and sat very still for her photo because I had a treat in my hand!  I actually wanted her to jump up, but she is so well trained to sit for a treat that I couldn't get her to move!  Good dogs do come from shelters!!!

Kona - Belgian Sheppard / Black Lab mix

This boy should have been named "Wigglebutt" because he just can't move without wagging his tail!  This is one good natured pup!  Kona is a 6 month old with a very high energy level and loves to play!  He will be a "big brother" to a new baby in the house in April and I'm sure he will do his Mom and Dad proud!

Milo - Pug

Oh Milo, you are sooooooo NOT pugnacious!  Milo is a 3 year old Pug who was rescued by his owner over a year ago and they both live downtown.  Milo is one of those first-class cuddlers who can make it very difficult to get out of bed in the morning!  His favorite toy is - a pillow!  Silly guy!

Scout - Golden Retriever

This lovely lady is Scout.  She is a 3 1/2 year old Golden who has such a sweet, sweet nature!  Scout lives downtown and is one happy dog.  She smiles all the time and is quick with a wag of the tail - you know, one of those optimistic types!  We love her!

Prince - Chihuahua /Lab/ dunno - mix

LOL!  I totally didn't realize I captured Prince yawning!  Prince was rescued by this lovely family from the shelter on November 12th!  Prince is getting used to his new family and the kids just love to hold the leash to walk him down the street!

Gracie - Greyhound

This sweetheart is a lovely girl who has a crush on my own dog, The Baron.  Gracie was not chosen to be a racer because she was too small, which is lucky for Gracie because she got adopted by Jay who LOVES his girl!  Gracie is very mellow and adorable.  Say goodnight Gracie.

Bentley - Yellow Lab / Golden Retriever mix

Bentley is a darling guy who had a rough start in life.   But he hit the jackpot by being adopted by Jay and Melanie who started Bark Avenue!  Bentley is now living a very good life with lots of love and attention!  He can still show his shy side when he meets a stranger, but warms up quickly to you after a few minutes.

Murphy - Mastiff

Murphy, Murphy, Murphy.  You absolutely KILL me with your clowning around!!  Murphy lives with his two doggie brothers and a couple kitties and is a true gentle giant. 

Bully - American Bulldog

Okay, so Bully no longer lives in Downtown, but he used to for many years before moving to the San Francisco area.  When Bully lived here, I was banned from kissing him because I would always leave an indelible red lipstick mark on his forehead!  Wouldn't you kiss this beauty?

Boo - A White Dog (?)

Boo is the perfect name for this ghostly dog!  She is a sweetie and has the most beautiful eyes!  She lives with her humans and her brother, Luca, in the Southpark area of Downtown.

Eros - Burnese Mountain Dog

Eros, the Dog of Love!  This boy is one lovely guy!  He is so sweet natured and calm, everyone wants to pet him - but Eros doesn't give out his love so easily!  You must flirt with him first and play hard-to-get and then he will come over to you for some affection.

Toscane - Bull Terrier

This pretty lady is 8 years old and comes to Downtown via Europe, with her human, Alex.  Toscane is a sweet pup who has worked very hard not to "spin" when she gets excited!  Look at that face - CUTE!!

Bruiser - Queensland Heeler / Rottweiler mix

Bruiser looks a bit sad in this picture but he isn't!  He has a piggy ear just off camera that he is waiting to grab!  Bruiser is 4 months old and showing signs of becoming a very well mannered young man!  With the Heeler for intelligence and the Rotty for loyalty, we have one awesome pup here!

Sabrina - Springer Spaniel

Sabrina the Teenage Springer Spaniel!  She is true to her breed - she loves to chase birds and retrieve.  She likes chicken wrapped banana chips and will sit for hours while you scratch under her chin! 

Mayor Cutie - Rat Terrier / Chihuahua mix

This little cutie is a real "Cutie"!  That's her name!  She is quite the personality with lots of smiles and kisses!  She LOVES chicken treats and will dance for some!  Cutie is 3 years old and the apple of her mother's eye!!

Volta - Rat Terrier

Volta is an amazing athlete!  This guy can jump!  He's super animated and likes to show off his ability to dance like Fred Astaire!  Volta and my dog, Baron von Squirtenheimer, both share a birthday month and are 5 years old! 

Velma - Chiweenie

Velma the Terror.  This young lady had a previous life.  She was named "Susie" and lived with a disabled old woman who would run over her tail with her wheelchair.  "Susie" terrorized the neighborhood and mothered several litters of puppies.  Now she does not have to worry about getting her tail hurt or having puppies.  But, she can still terrorize the neighborhood from time to time, especially when she sees another dog!

Scrappy - Sheppard/Lab mix

Awwww, look at that smile!!  Scrappy is one funny dog!  He can usually be seen in the background of pictures - photo bombing!  He actually poses!  He's my pup's best friend and they love to go exploring together and go to the beach.  Scrappy is a mean body surfer too!  I heart Scrappy.

Harley - Chihuahua/Terrier mix

Don't be fooled by that sweet little face!  Harley is one tough little girl and does not like people just coming up to her to pet her before she gets properly introduced.  She has finally warmed up to me but I think it's because I give her tasty treats! 

Butch - Chihuahua

Butch (the one with his eyes closed) loves to sun himself apparently!  This guy is a regular at Pet Project and really enjoys his treats!  He shares his home with his sister, Harley, and his mom, Merci.   I call him my little Aardvark!

Lulabean - Corgie mix

This little 1 1/2 year old sweet pickle is just about the sweetest thing!  According to her parents (who are crazy about her, and who wouldn't be?) Lou loves to nap all day and catch some rays in the sunny spot of the house.  Her best friend is a black lab named Lucy.  Lulabean can be seen walking around Downtown wearing her purple hoodie!

Nova - French Bulldog

This shining star is Nova, a young Frenchie with a BIG attitude!  This little dude is full of beans!  He will burn his light into your heart and make you laugh with his silliness!

Diego - Chiweenie

Normally Diego's ears stick out like Sister Bertrille of the Flying Nun, but he's learned to hold them down for a more effective "gimme a treat" look!  Diego lives with his human, Michael, and his sister Frida.  Diego is a bit more stubborn and has yet to let me cuddle him like I do with Frida.  I won't give up! I will win his heart!!!

Frida - Chihuahua

This little angel was dumped by her previous owner and luckily rescued by Michael, who LOVES his little Frida!  She has bonded very closely with him and is starting to come out of her shell with others.  She now lets me scratch under her chin and cuddle her - and it took a bit of time (and treats) to win her heart!

Madison - Chihuahua

It looks like Madison's Mom is holding her by the tail when in fact she just ran her hand down her back when I took the photo!  Madison is one wiggle-worm of a pup!  :o)

Zachary Diamond Lovell - White Daschund

Zachary is one of those "lifetime babies" who will always be carried!  He is the polar opposite of his brother, Giorgio, he's super mellow.  What an angel!

Seriously?!  Are you gonna make me tell you how cute this guy is???!!!

Mister - Pit Bull

When Mister loves, Mister loves BIG!  His tail is whipping you, he bumps into you, he gives big kisses!!!  Mister is one of those dogs who is mellow and sweet all the time.  He lives in Downtown and just celebrated his 6th birthday!

Beethoven - Bassett Hound

Oh Beethoven.  What can I say? With your sad eyes and droopy face - you melt my heart!  But, you also have a dark side that comes out when someone orders french fries!  Yes, you know I'm talking about your ability to leap up, grab a fry and be back to lying down with that angelic face before anyone knows what happened!
